8 Winning Hair and Makeup Looks From The Oscars
First of all, we would like to thank the Academy for creating a night that gives us an excuse to sit around in sweatpants with friends for the sole purpose of gawking at gorgeous celebrities. We would also like to thank these stars for bringing their A-games—and loads of beauty inspiration. These are the looks that stole the show.
#1 Shailene Woodley’s Boho Nude Lips
This newly minted It Girl kept her makeup low-key, opting for nearly naked lips that looked gorgeous with her white gown and understated (yet gorgeous) face. Her makeup pro, Stephen Sollitto, played up her pout with Hourglass Trace Lip Liner in Bare and layered Hourglass Prodigy Hydrating Lip Gloss in Eden on top for peachy-nude shine.
#2 Sandra Bullock’s High Ponytail
Who says red carpet hair has to be complicated? Take a cue from Bullock, whose style was simple, but chic enough for Hollywood’s most important night. The key to a polished pony: Hide your elastic! Leave out a chunk of hair when you’re making your ponytail then wrap the loose piece around your band to cover it. Finish with a shine spray like Garnier Fructis Style Brilliantine Glossing Spray.
#3 Penelope Cruz’s Sultry Smoky Eyes
Leave it to a past Oscar winner to bring the big-time glamor. Cruz looked amazing in her retro updo and signature smoldering eyes thanks to a mix of products by Lancôme. To create her sexy look, makeup artist Matthew VanLeeuwen smudged Cruz’s eyes with Color Design 5 Pan Palette in Gris Fatale then lined them with Le Crayon Khol EyeLiner in Black Lapis and finished with a few coats of Oscillation Power Mascara in Black. The result: 100 percent gorgeousness.
#4 Angelina Jolie’s Bombshell Crimson Lips
Jolie reminded us of two things last night: 1) she’s the hottest working mother on the planet, and 2) you can’t go wrong with an elegant black dress and classic red lips. To recreate her timeless look, try a daring shade like Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Color in Are You Ready and keep your eyes and face neutral.
#5 Emma Stone’s Sleek Updo
Her red gown may have been controversial, but we give Stone’s classy hair an easy A. The deep side part and sweep of hair over her forehead make her look sophisticated and fresh at the same time. Stepping out with an updo? Keep it from collapsing with a heavy-duty hairspray like L’Oréal Elnett Satin Hairspray Extra Strong Hold.
#6 Cameron Diaz’s Girly Lips and Cheeks
Always fun and flirty, Diaz hit the red carpet looking shamelessly feminine in matching pink blush and lipstick. To give Diaz her double dose of pink, makeup artist Robin Fredricksz applied Lancôme Blush Subtil in Cosmopolitan Pink and Rouge in Love Lipstick in Roses in Love.
#7 Viola Davis’s Coppery Hair Color
Davis is one actress who knows how to command attention on the big screen and on the red carpet. Her natural hair has been scoring rave reviews and we’re smitten with the warm color that compliments her skin tone beautifully. To steal her striking shade, try Dark and Lovely Fade Resistant Rich Conditioning Color in Rich Auburn.
#8 Gwyneth Paltrow’s Glowing Skin
There’s no denying that this Oscar winner is getting more stunning with age—the woman is like one big ball of radiance these days. To boost Paltrow’s natural glow, makeup pro Leslie Lopez used NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 PA +++, with Super Orgasm Illuminator patted onto the apples of the cheeks.
