Summer solstice doesn't even begin until next week, but I'm already thinking about fall—or at least about fall makeup! Allow me to explain: Last night, I went to Yves Saint Laurent's bash here in NYC for the newest version of their iconic Opium fragrance, Belle D’Opium. (it launches in October). Our amazing intern, Gerry, accompanied me to the party, where YSL transformed an event space on the West Side into a virtual Opium den, complete with an Imax-like theater in which guests viewed the fragrance's new commercial while seated on a rotating platform and being wafted with the scent's plume all around them. Quite an experience!
Equally tantalizing was the star-studded crowd, which included Maggie Gyllenhaal, Alexis Bledel, Ashley Olsen, Alexa Chung, and French actress Mélanie Thierry, the face of Belle Opium. So where does fall makeup come into play in all this? Well, the aforementioned ladies all wore products from YSL's fall 2010 makeup collection, including the new Rouge Pur Couture lipstick and Teint Radiance Foundation. And based on how striking they all looked in person, I can't wait to get my hands on these products!
Alexis's flawless nude look (top photo) was the work of makeup artist Melina Cavalieri, who used the Teint Radiance Foundation to perfect her skin and Rouge Pur Couture in No. 11 on her lips. Maggie's pink pout (second photo from top) was created by makeup artist Johnny Burnais, who layered two shades of Rouge Pur Couture—No. 2 and No. 4—to make the deep fuchsia color. And Mélanie, whose luscious lips could inspire a nation, had on a soft rosy shade of Rouge Pur Couture that makeup artist Michael Serapiglia chose for her look.
The bad news: You'll have to wait until September to purchase Teint Radiance Foundation and until October for Rouge Pur Couture. The good news: If you like lipstick, you're going to flip over this new formula, which is soft and creamy, but delivers the richest color. So while you're laying by the pool or ocean this weekend, start thinking about which shade you'll want to wear come fall!
