While the runway looks during New York Fashion Week certainly blew us away, there was another side of the fall 2013 ready-to-wear shows that we couldn't stop following: all of those behind-the-scenes snapshots of models getting their hair and makeup done backstage that popped up on Instagram over the last eight days.

This photograph of Karlie Kloss just before she hit the runway at Carolina Herrera is absolutely stunning. Her red lip is bright and sultry and seeing the hairstylist scrambling to perfect his masterpiece is what the presentations are all about.

Cara Delevingne’s multitasking abilities are quite impressive. Check out this shot of her getting her makeup done and texting with her eyes shut backstage at Rag & Bone.

This intimate moment of model Sasha Pivovarova with her baby, Mia, before the Proenza Schouler show just melts our hearts.

And what about this close-up of the bold and whimsical makeup and hair at Thom Browne? The precision of the lip application and the intricacy of that bird’s-nest style make you appreciate just how much went into this complex look.

The benefit of getting a sneak peek at these behind-the-scenes shots is being able to re-create these looks on your own. This action shot of a makeup artist applying a deep smoky eye is great inspiration.

One thing that doesn’t surprise us is how stunning these models are in these candids. It just goes to prove why they are meant to walk the runway.
