Bright smiles are hot this summer. Just ask Kourtney Kardashian, who has been snapped recently looking absolutely gorgeous with a pop of orange on her lips. The trick to perfecting this style, according to Maybelline makeup artist Melissa Silver, is choosing the right tangerine shade. Here is her step-by-step guide to playing up your pout with a juicy burst of color.
Step 1: Choose the right hue. If your teeth aren't that white, steer clear of an orange shade that has yellow or brown undertones, which can make teeth look duller and more discolored. Instead, find a tangerine color with a touch of pink. Try Maybelline Color Sensational Lipcolor in Coral Crush, a bright Palm Beach-style coral, or Maybelline Superstay 14HR Lipstick in Keep Me Coral, a softer orange. To go full-on tangerine, swipe on Giorgio Armani Beauty Rouge D'Armani Sheer Lipstick in 300.
Step 2: Since you're working with such a bright color, apply lipstick to a nude face. This will make it easier to balance and coordinate the rest of your makeup.
Step 3: For a fresh, modern look, skip the liner and apply lipstick straight from the tube. If you need to define the edges of your lips, use a lip brush.
Step 4: Keep the rest of your makeup simple. You should only need a touch of bronzer, a light swipe of peachy blush, golden shadow and a swipe of black mascara.
