Designer Mara Hoffman looked to Hawaii when creating her spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection. The nail look followed suit. Lead manicurist Honey was inspired by the ocean that surrounds the tropical paradise, which resulted in blue ombré tips. The subtle effect was on trend with all the other minimal styles on this season's runways, while still making a unique statement. Here is a how to create the look.
What you need:
- Base coat. Try: Essie All in One Multi-Treatment Base Coat.
- A lighter and darker shade of metallic blue nail polish Try: Maybelline New York Color Show Nail Lacquer in Denim Dash and Maybelline New York Color Show Nail Lacquer in Styled Out.
- Paper plate.
- Scotch tape.
- Wedge sponge.
- Top coat. Try: Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat.
How to do it:
Step 1: Apply the base coat.
Step 2: Brush a generous amount of each of the blue polishes onto a paper plate in two stripes, letting the colors overlap slightly.
Step 3: In order to prevent the polish from landing on your skin, cover it with tape on either side of your nails.
Step 4: Dip the makeup sponge into the polish stripes. Press the sponge and polish onto the top half of each nail, using a rolling technique. Then let the polish dry for about five minutes.
Step 5: Finish the look by applying the top coat.
