The five women in this week's roundup were no shrinking violets. Instead they stepped out in statement-making beauty looks that showed just what it means to make a red-carpet appearance. Marion Cotillard led the pack, appearing at a premiere for her latest film in a graphic Dior gown, black nails, nude lips, rimmed smoky eyes and a gravity-defying updo that coiled in the back a good six inches from the nape of her neck. The hairstyle conjured the dome-like shape of Ridley Scott's Alien, but it was otherwordly in the best sense on the French actress who always pulls off bold choices with pure elegance. Singer Rihanna and the latest Bond girl, Naomie Harris, married retro waves and the season's mulberry pout for a strong sex appeal, while tv star Ashley Madekwe went for a sweet sensibility with a cat eye and bun on top of her head that she accented with the celestial clips from Rodarte's fall 2012 ready-to-wear show. Leading lady Halle Berry always owns her style, and her hair and makeup were no exception at a Cloud Atlas screening, where her brushed-up wavy bangs and luminescent eyes paired perfectly with her Irit Design diamond earrings.
