Not sure about you, but everywhere I look these days I see a top knot. It's a perfect style that screams "I'm pulled-together" but doesn't take a ton of effort or even clean hair to create. But, because we can't wear this look forever (well, we could, but that wouldn't be very fun, now would it?) it's time to talk about the next "it" bun.
After scoping out the hairstyle seen at the Rebecca Minkoff runway show, I think we have a strong contender. TRESemme stylist Jeanie Syfu created a textured and relaxed side bun that I couldn't wait to go home and copy. It has that same chic vibe as the top knot, but with a casual texture that makes it a bit edgier at the same time. Here are Syfu's steps to creating it:
Step 1: Create a deep side part and spritz damp hair from roots to ends with a root-boosting spray. Try TRESemme 24 Hour Body Root Boosting Spray or Redken Rootful 06 Root Lifting Spray.
Step 2: Dry your hair by diffusing it on high heat.
Step 3: Once hair is dry, go back and spritz on more root-boosting spray and then diffuse until dry. This will give you that roughed up (in a good way) texture.
Step 4: Smooth a dime-sized amount of styling cream over your strands. Try TREsemme Smooth & Silky Anti-Frizz Secret Creme or L'Oreal Paris EverSleek Humidity Defying Leave-In Creme.
Step 5: Gather hair into a loose side ponytail and secure it with an elastic midway down your pony. It's OK if a significant amount of face-framing layers fall out—we'll fix that in Step 7.
Step 6: Twist your ponytail into a bun. Secure with bobby pins.
Step 7: If you have a serious amount of layers hanging, bobby pin them back to the bun. You'll only want to have a few, lighter layers hanging loose.
Step 8: Spritz with hairspray for hold.
