Beyond Botox

As a pharmaceutical chemist for more than 40 years, not only did I toil away in the labs making prescription medicines and topical skincare treatments, I also created many skin preparations for my own family's needs and even cosmeceuticals for friends and colleagues. I began to realize that these topical treatments could offer tremendous benefits and I had to find a way to get them into the marketplace. Just over 10 years ago, my son Howard and I co-founded B. Kamins, Chemist, an innovative skincare collection and a pioneer in the cosmeceutical industry.

One of the biggest trends we see is that American women are searching for a healthier alternative to invasive cosmetic treatments. Together with my son Howard, we drew upon our significant knowledge of the skin and spa industries, and created the ultimate lifestyle guide to healthy aging. Our book, Beyond Botox: Seven Strategies For Sexy, Ageless Skin Without Needles Or Surgery, is a how-to guide for women everywhere who want to look younger and get healthy, glowing skin for life without resorting to extreme measures.

I firmly believe that with the right dose of healthy lifestyle behaviors, such as proper nutrition, rest, exercise and stress-management, combined with powerful topical skincare ingredients, you can age-proof your skin without going under the surgeon's knife. Ten years ago I would not have said this, but with today's advanced technologies and ingredients, we can really turn back the clock with topical preparations. The latest skincare treatments, such as those found in our Therapeutic Anti-Aging line, are a great option for those who are not a candidate for surgery or for whatever reason can't or don't want to undergo injections and needles.

These are just a few of my favorite tips from my book on how to make your skin look younger and sexier:
  • Eat a balanced diet- nourish with plenty of fruits and vegetables

  • Get enough sleep every night- at least eight hours

  • Exercise often- even a brief but brisk walk helps to get the heart rate up

  • Exfoliate several times a week

  • Use sunscreen religiously- apply carefully and reapply throughout the day to protect yourself from the sun's harmful rays

  • Moisturize daily- your skin will thank you

  • Add night creams to your regime- you will see a difference

  • Hydrate by drinking lots of water
