Backstage Pass: Bright On the Kisser

After seeing a plethora of berry-stained lips backstage for Fall 2011, leave it to the beauty industry to crank up the color volume for Spring 2012 with brightly-hued blue and purple lips (not a typo!), which we found on the pouts of models backstage at the Richard Chai Love fashion show. James Kaliardos, lead makeup artist at the show for MAC Cosmetics said the look is to be done as a “full opaque color” and that these vibrant shades can “brighten up your whole atmosphere; I think it can help you pull out of depression!” The Kool-Aid shades, both chic and a little funky at the same time, definitely made us smile!

James used MAC Pro Amplified Lipstick in Violetta for the purple lip, and MAC Pro Chromographic Pencil in Hi-Def Cyan for the blue lip. You can get the same effect by using a purple or blue eyeliner and a lip brush. Icy purple/blue lips not your thing? Choose the brightest shade you can bare and be sure to keep the rest of the face minimal, no mascara, blush, or eyeshadow; James only used foundation on the face.
Would you ever wear a bright purple or blue lipstick?
