Backstage Pass: Fake Perfect Skin

Maybe she’s born with it…maybe it’s her makeup? Yes, even supermodels have bad skin days. Not that you’d ever know it. That’s because beauty pros have myriad methods to mask imperfections on the spot and fake a flawless face. So stop beating yourself up over past sun worship or that last drink you really (really, really) didn’t need. Just steal this backstage beauty regimen. As they say, “fake it ‘til you make it.”
Step 1: Cleanse
Start by washing your face and neck. For a soft, supple complexion and to remove every last stitch of makeup and impurity, try Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel with Marula Oil.
Step 2: Scrub
Whether you’ve invested in a highly-effective (but costly) Clarisonic system, or dropped by the drugstore for a bottle of beloved St. Ives Apricot Scrub, very gently removing that top layer of dull, dead skin cells is critical, particularly if you have patches of dry skin, acne or rosacea.
Step 3:  Hydrate and prime
Zoolander wasn’t lying when he said “moisture is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of beauty.” Moisturizing skin that has been cleansed and gently scrubbed is the key and most important step to this fake-out. Consider dry skin your arch-nemesis. Moist skin, on the other hand, plumps out fine lines and wrinkles. Hydration also creates a smooth surface for makeup to glide over. For a moisturizer and primer in one, try Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentrè (24-Hour Miracle Cream)
Step 4: DePuff
The only bags you should be wearing are the ones over your shoulder. Instantly eliminate under-eye bags with the Garnier Nutritioniste Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller.
Step 5: Blot
Wait a few minutes for the skin prep products to absorb. Then lightly press and lift a blotting tissue such as Boscia Blotting Linens to remove any excess. This will allow for an even makeup application, as some areas need more hydration than others.
Step 6: Paint
For a perfectly even canvas, use a damp sponge, a brush or even your hands (after emulsifying the base by rubbing your hands together) to apply a thin layer of foundation. What type to look for? Satin-finish and sheer- to medium-coverage, like Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. Start from the inside of the face working outward. For a second skin look, press foundation into your skin with your hands.
Step 7: Cover
For any areas of discoloration or imperfection, go back with a synthetic brush and pat on a full-coverage cream concealer like Mac Studio Finish in an exact skin match. Make sure to blend all edges.
Step 8: Brighten
For any remaining darkness or circles in the orbital area, swipe with an undereye concealer like YSL Touche Eclat pen, tapping the product into skin with your ring finger.
Step 9: Glow
Accentuate your facial structures by adding dimension and light, and impart that desired dew by placing just a drop of Josie Maran Organic Argan Oil on the highest points of your cheekbones, bridge of your nose and cupid’s bow. Can you say JLo Glow??
Step 10: Set
To complete the look, dust a thin veil of Make Up For Ever HD MicroFinish Powder over your now-flawless face. P.S. Where did that zit go?!
