Beach Beauty Face-Off: The Hamptons vs. Malibu

You might think that equal parts sand, sunshine, and ocean make for identical circumstances, but if this bicoastal MDC Team has learned anything, it’s that the East and West Coast beach scenes couldn’t be any more different. While the Hamptons and Malibu both bring their own glamour to the season, each coast demands a unique beauty look, influenced by its setting. Below is our take on East vs. West Coast beach beauty—which team are you on?

When summer arrives on the East Coast, New York heads to Long Island faster than you can say “Summer Friday.” And while they leave the skyscrapers and stilettos behind, the Hamptons still ooze of subdued sophistication. Here’s how to nail the look.
Lancôme Hypnôse Star 24H Waterproof MascaraTo land an effortless look, opt for long, defined lashes and minimal face makeup. Waterproof mascara is the only option thanks to that lovely East Coast humidity.
Kiehl’s Lip Balm SPF 15: Stay loyal to the East Coast with the brand that started in 1851 as an Apothecary in the East Village of New York City. We love this classic lip balm for its moisturizing benefits and SPF.
L’Oréal Professionnel Mythic OilEast Coasters know that summertime is synonymous with humidity. To ditch the puffy, frizzy locks, smooth a pump of oil on your hair. We take ours to the beach for a mid-day smooth down.
Caudalie Divine Legs: Unlike those on the sunnier shores of Malibu, the Hamptons crowd hasn’t been blessed with year-round sunshine to keep that healthy glow. To minimize the glare of translucent legs on the beach, slather on some bronzer over your sunscreen. We love Caudalie’s Divine Legs for its easy application and delicious smell.
When summer is basically a year-round event, you learn how to do it well. West Coast natives know all about the effortless beach style, from their tousled tresses to perfectly pedicured toes. Here’s how to look carefree-chic on the Malibu sands this summer.
Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty BalmA flawless complexion is the base for your sun-kissed look, so opt for an easy-to-apply beauty balm that offers sheer coverage.
Aerin Pretty Bronze Illuminating Powder: Every Californian needs a (faux) glow, and we love the subtle warmth of this bronze illuminating powder. Use it for a touch of color where the sun would naturally hit your face.
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Carina: Starkly contrasted to the ubiquitous black ensembles in New York City, LA residents are never afraid of a little color. Add a punchy, fun lip stain to your look to brighten your face. This orangey option is a tried and true Team MDC favorite that stays put all day.
Bumble and bumble Surf Spray: Embrace the beachy waves with a texturizing spray. This salt-water based spray is the perfect item to toss in your bag for a seaside freshen up.
