5 Cheap and Easy Halloween Costume Ideas

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably left your Halloween costume to the last minute - haven’t you? Don’t worry, we’ve got your back. We’ve compiled our favorite 5 cheap and easy Halloween costumes that will still wow you and your friends!

1. Cereal Killer Costume - Here’s a great last minute costume for someone looking for a few laughs.

Go to the local store and buy the 8 pack of those sugary cereals (or if you have boxes of the healthy stuff at home, that’s OK too). Take an old shirt and apply the boxes (they hold better when empty) to your shirt via safety pins or tape. Buy those plastic knifes you stick in cheese, or use the ones already in your kitchen drawer from past take-out dinners and insert them into the boxes. There you go, you’re a cereal killer!

2. Grown-up Super Hero Costume - This one is great for the creative type.

Wear single colored clothing and find an old light-weight blanket laying around the home. Tie one end of the blanket around your neck (this is your cape). Next find some swimming or skiing goggles. For a hat (optional) wear a plastic or metal strainer.

Now for the creative part…all super heroes need a secret weapon or utility belt, right? Put on a belt and apply with tape or string any items you feel will give those super powers you require for the night! It could even be a toilet plunger. That’s it, time to save the day!!!

3. Facebook Costume - Bring social media right to the party.

Why not go as Facebook? No, I’m really not kidding. This costume is definitely inexpensive, but somewhat time consuming.

Start with a large (head to waist) sized piece of cardboard or paper. Trace and cut out a square for your ‘profile picture’ where your head will go in this costume. Next log into Facebook and copy a similar profile layout to your own. If you have pictures of friends, go ahead and glue these under your friends section. Have a mood that you’re in? Just add this as your ’status’. Make sure to also bring a felt pen with you so your friends can literally write on your wall!

The only remaining question is whether you go with the old Facebook look or the newly released version. I think we all know where the loyalties lie on this one.

4. Chia Pet Costume - The easiest and well, laziest costume to date.

Wrap yourself with duct tape, making sure the sticky side is facing out. Walk to the closest lawn and roll to your hearts content. The end result should be your tape covered in grass. Yes, that’s it.* Why the asterisk?…we want to warn you that this costume is not the best for indoor festivities. Would you really want someone leaving grass stains on your couch?

Another alternative to this classic costume is to wear a green shirt and throw in a green wig.

5. YouTube Costume - You’re the star of this costume.

Start with a large piece of cardboard or paper, then trace and cut out a rectangle for the video section (a section of your face and body will appear in this area). Now for the fun part! Create comments and responses below your picture. Also don’t forget to post any related videos.

Have fun and be safe everyone!

I LOVE the Facebook costume! That is too fun… I also enjoyed the iPhone costume that someone came up with last year. Halloween is such a great time to get creative! For inexpensive ideas, check your local thrift store, like Thrift Town!
