I swear the biggest reasons that one of the popular girls in my high school was popular was because of her perfectly angled cat’s-eye, drawn on daily with liquid liner.
I’ll admit, she looked great, but the liquid liner was a little too dramatic for my liking.
Fast forward years later to now, when thoughts of cat’s-eye makeup effects for the holidays and New Year’s Eve seem like a really, really good idea.
Thanks to POP Beauty’s Cat Eyes Automatic Pencil (which was a gift!), I can give myself the look in a less dramatic way because the brand’s pencil is a easy-to-draw-on kohl, not steadfast liquid, so if you make a big boo-boo of a mistake, it’s quite easily fixable. Plus, these angled pencils give you more control over how high or long you want that cat-eye.
Victoria Rowe, a makeup artist for POP Beauty, gave Style the lowdown on proper application (POP-style, of course ), and I thought I’d pay it forward to you all.
1. Apply a primer all over your lids and under the eye to set up a blank, matte canvas for the liner. Rowe also recommends adding a nude eye shadow on top of lids to set.
2. Start with the thin side of POP’s in black on the inner corner going out, keeping the pencil all the way into the lashes for a tight black line.
3. Stroke the pencil and turn to the wider side near the center of the eye, making the line wider until you reach the outer end of the eyelash.
4. As you approach the outer edge, turn back quickly to the thin point to create a pointed tip on the ends, and voilà!

Is this still popular for the girls nowadays? I’ve seen high-schoolers more into shaving their eyebrows and redrawing them, which I personally don’t get. I wonder if mixing these two together is a big no-no.
