Just because New York is done and done at Bryant Park for Fall ‘09 doesn’t mean Fashion Week is over.
The fashion set is now ensconced in London, where designers across the pond are showing their wares: Vivienne Westwood Red Label, Topshop Unique, Richard Nicoll, Twenty8Twelve, Peter Jensen, Aquascutum, Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony, Christopher Kane and Todd Lynn.
True to name, Vivienne Westwood sent her models out with scarlet puckers for her lower-priced Red Label. Sienna Miller kept it simple rock and roll chic, her mannequins trotting out in black rimmed eyes with natural lips and cheeks. Christopher Kane preferred his sans makeup, however, though there were plenty of fresh-faced sixteen and seventeen-year-olds in his runway lineup — fellow designer Todd Lynn also went a similar route.
Peter Jensen emphasized the cheeks and lips, even brushing on the blush on the boys. Chloe Sevigny wavered between plain and red lips, while the guys sported facial hair (take your pick between a full-on beard or twisty mustache). Richard Nicoll had his own take on the orange seen on the eyes of models at New York Fashion Week, opting instead to put it on puckers.
Topshop had the most interesting makeup of London Fashion Week so far, clearly influenced by a cross between Dita von Teese and the beautiful vampires from Twilight. Models had pale skin, eyes rimmed in cranberry shadow and matte grey lips — I could have done without the hair of multiple braids, though.
