From New York to London to Milan.
As editors, buyers and the international party set begin to weaken with transatlantic flights, late nights, too many cocktails and too many high heels, the beauty trends emerging from the runways continue to be strong.
Milan has already seen the Fall ‘09 collections from the likes of Moschino, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Alessandro Dell’Acqua, Roberto Cavalli, Salvatore Ferrgamo, Etro, Marni, Pringle of Scotland and Prada since Sunday, meaning the accompanying runway makeup has been observed, digested and duly noted.
Miuccia Prada’s models came out with frizzy hair, pale skin and red-rimmed eyes, eliciting the feeling that the living mannequins were straddling the line between life and death. I may not highly suggest either the hair or the alabaster complexion, I do think the red-rimmed look is an interesting trend to sport on a night out.
Marni also went with color around the eye lines, but chose to go sunny for the fall — models had matte, bare faces with golden yellow-rimmed eyes. In true Roberto Cavalli fashion, the designer opted to have his girls in sexy, smudged black raccoon eyes (and bare lips). The raccoon look should be taken down a notch for normal girls wanting to dive into this beauty trend, however.
Gucci, for sure, had 80s on the mind. Models here definitely were decked out in full makeup, from the strong red lip to the blushed out cheeks to the Jem & the Holograms-like eye shadow to the Dynasty hair. Be careful to only pick one trend to run with here! Moschino also went with a bold lip (in orange-red), as did Bottega Veneta (in a deep berry). Alessandro Dell’Acqua chose extremely sculpted cheeks and deeply side-parted hair, which reminded me of Jerry Hall in her younger days (though she pretty much still looks the same).
So far, Milan takes the cake with the catwalk makeup. Let’s see what the next day or so brings!
