New York Fashion Week is approaching its mid-cycle, with more than 20 well-known designers — both established and rising (hello, Jason Wu!) — having sent their Fall ‘09 collections down the runway.
One of the most amazing makeup jobs I’ve seen so far was on British-born model (and mannequin du jour) Jourdan Dunn at the 50th anniversary show for Barbie. Her stunning eye makeup was the ultimate hybrid between She-Ra and a bird of paradise, what with the purple feathers, heavy shimmer, bright purples and blues, thick white liner and angled lines.
Some of the other models also sported the same facial decor, but against Dunn’s dark skin, the results were fantastic. This, of course, is completely impractical for day-to-day makeup, but nonetheless stunning!
Another look that’s been showing up on models is the red head. Hey, if Coco Rocha can do it, so can Vlada Roslyakova, right?! Sadly, this would not work with my complexion or heritage, but I’ll gladly watch Rocha cover Fashion Week for eTalk and charm the crowd — as per usual — with her new ginger-hued mane.
For the most part, thus far, Fall ‘09 maquillage is looking pared down, which would be quite apropos considering how gauche ostentatiousness and showboating is at the moment, but I was still glad to see a little orange lip at Karen Walker, blackberry kissers at Rachel Roy, dark eyes at Miss Sixty and lilac cheek at Jason Wu.
Stay tuned for more from NYFW!
