Celebrity Fragrances: Mary J. Blige and Carol’s Daughter

Lisa Price started off her beauty product brand Carol’s Daughter while working on The Cosby Show set back in the 1980s, dabbling in mixing organic ingredients like sweet jojoba, almonds and soy in her downtime.

A few years later, it turned into a mail-order and online business in the 90s, eventually going the way of brick and mortar in 1999 with a store in Brooklyn. One store then turned into another in Harlem, then turned into a deal with Sephora to sell Carol’s Daughter.

Now Carol’s Daughter counts Jay-Z, Jimmy Iovine, Tommy Mottola, Thalia, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Mary J. Blige as fans and investors, with Mary J. being the face of the brand’s first celebrity perfume called My Life (after her newest album).

Details of the top, bottom and middle notes are yet to be released, but if you can’t wait till then, stop and sniff Pearls from Carol’s Daughter at your nearest Macy’s or Dillard’s.
