Reese Witherspoon is America’s Sweetheart — and, boy, did she ever look elegantly sweet in at the recent Country Music Awards.
I got the chance to speak to Lyle Remier, a makeup artist for M.A.C. (and co-designer of the clothing label Evan & Dean), about how to replicate Witherspoon’s enviable CMA look.
Skin: Use Prep + Prime Skin along with Studio Stick Foundation from M.A.C. to give a natural matte finish. Set the makeup with Mineralize Skin Finish Powder for longevity, but to also keep the skin looking like skin (and not a pancake).
Cheeks: Apply Dollymix Blush very sparingly to the apples of the cheek and then lightly dust a bit of Belightful Iridescent Pressed Powder on top to highlight the apples.
Eyes: Use Untitled Eye Paint as the base all over the lid (very sheerly), then wash the lid in Vanilla Eye Shadow. I would subtly contour the eye lid with Charcoal Brown Eye Shadow to give a little bit of depth to the crease (it will translate beautifully in photos for that natural but polished eyelid). Use an angle liner brush to apply Black Track Fluidline to the lash line and pull the liner slightly past the end of the lashes to elongate the eye to give that classic hollywood glamour look. Apply a light coat of your favorite mascara and then attach a strip of M.A.C. #36 false lashes. Press the falsies into your real set so that it looks like one cohesive set of lashes — the mascara serves as a “gel” to fuse the falsies to your real ones.
Lips: Apply Brick Lip Pencil all over your lips and then apply Dubbonet Lipstick. Blot, then reapply.
