Last Minute Halloween Makeup Tips: Amy Winehouse and Daisy Buchanan

It’s crunch time.

All Hallow’s Eve is tonight, which happens to fall on a Friday this year, meaning there will be lots of freaks, ghouls and politically incorrect characters out on the street come nighttime.

If Halloween costumes were the last thing on your mind till now, don’t wig out too badly. Here are some quick makeup tips that add up to a costume with fast-thinking apparel improvisation.

Amy Winehouse

Start off by applying matte powder to your face. Then using bronzer or blush, contour your cheeks to get that gaunt effect. Line your inner eyelids with black liner and darken your eyebrows with brow powder (thick at inner edges to thin at outer edges). Then, using liquid liner draw an exaggerated cat-eye shape from the outer edge of your eyebrows to the lashline, just above your iris. Apply pale lip gloss and draw a beauty mark on your right cheek between the line of your nostrils and top lip.

Wear denim cutoffs, dirty flats, white wifebeater tank, fake tattoos (scrawl “Amy + Blake 4ever” somewhere on your body) and beehive black wig.

Daisy Buchanan

The roaring 1920s are back — one need only look at recent runways and resurgence of the cloche hat as accessory of choice. Thin eyebrows and plump red lips ruled, but don’t go plucking your brows anorexic. Use matte powder to get a pale pallor — rice powder is better and don’t use any blush. Using black kohl eyeliner, draw a line from the corner of the eye outward. Your biggest focus should be getting bow-shaped red lips. Using a red or neutral (like M.A.C.’s Spice) lip liner, trace a line on the upper lip that’s smaller than its actual size. Do the same on the bottom, using a bit of concealer to hide the extra areas of lip. Fill in with a bright, bold and blood-red red lipstick or gloss. Dot a bit of gold gloss in the center of the bottom lip to make it look nice and plump.

Throw on a sleeveless silk or chiffon dress, faux pearls, nude stockings, two-inch heels and a wide headband (preferably with a flower, feather or large decoration) across the forehead.

Don’t eat too much candy — and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do. Happy Halloween!
