Choosing the right eye shadow is like choosing the right clothes for your body type.
Eyes, for the most part, can be a person’s best feature; thus, you want to be complementary, not too matchy-matchy. You want to bring them out without being over-the-top. You want them to be pretty, not frightening.
After all, they are the windows to your soul, n’est pas?
Eye shadow shades should complement not only your eye color, but also your skin tone. Be sure to pick hues that contrast, not match dead-on. Make sure the colors you amass over time complement each other, too, because blending, blending, blending is a huge part of eye shadow application (and makeup application in general).
Pink undertones work well for blue eyes, while yellow undertones are great for green eyes. Those with dark eyes should stick to neutrals for day, like brown and charcoal, but brights do wonders for night, thanks to that easy base to work from.
But whatever you do, always remember the bright blue shadow with matte pink lipstick combination is strictly verboten, as the German would say.
Unless you’re going as Barbie for Halloween.
