Sure, designer Narciso Rodriguez and Sarah Jessica Parker are close friends, but do friends riff on another friend’s fragrance?
One of my favorite scents is Narcisco Rodriguez For Her Eau du Parfum, which came out in 2003 and was created by Francis Kurkdjian and Christine Nagel for the designer famous for color blocks and making his pal SJP look good at the Emmys during her pregnancy. It blends elements of floral, wood, musk, vanilla and fruit in a clean, elegantly modern bottle of powder pink, embracing its wearer with layers of rich sensuality.
In 2005, Sarah Jessica Parker’s Lovely hit the fragrance market with the help of Coty (a company that handles most celebrity perfumes for available consumption), Laurent Le Guernec and Clement Gavarry. Like its predecessor, Lovely infuses wood, musk, fruit and vanilla that can confuse someone with a slightly inexperienced nose for top, middle and base notes. Though SJP’s scent is certainly lighter, it still echoes many similarities to Rodriguez’s version, down to the pink color scheme.
If you were Narciso, would you be mad at Sarah Jessica? And if you were to choose, would you pick the original fragrance at a higher price or watered-down version at a more affordable price??
