The Beauty In Charity

Charity Beauty Products It’s nice to know that in an industry focused on facade and outer beauty, there is still an emphasis on creating inner beauty through charity.

October was Breast Cancer Awareness month, a time during which many of beauty’s biggest brands — from Lancome to Estee Lauder to YSL to Too Faced to Shiseido — launch special edition products to raise funds for breast cancer research and to go along with that signature pink ribbon.

Other beauty brands are socio-economically conscious, too, working with organizations and high-profile figures to better the greater good of man, health and the environment.

A Snail’s Pace

The search for youth and beauty just got a little weirder — and ickier.

Elicina, a skincare line from Chile, promises to trigger collagen formation, clear pores, nourish skin, improve elasticity, restore skin color, regenerate damaged tissue and, basically, give you perfect skin.

It all sounds fantastic, doesn’t it?

Elicina might work for you if you’re not squeamish about creepy, crawly creatures. Namely, snails.

Aaron de Mey To Lancome

Lancome has a brand new man at the top: Aaron de Mey.

The New Zealand-born de May comes from a hefty celebrity (Pamela Anderson), magazine (Mario Sorrenti, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Patrick Demarchelier, Bruce Weber) and film (David Lynch, Sofia Coppola) background, an admirable portfolio to have before moving into his new Lancome Make-Up Artistic Director position at one of the world’s most established beauty brands.

Bobbi Brown’s New Book

Cosmetics icon Bobbi Brown feted her new book Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual: For Everyone From Beginning To Pro at the Big Apple’s Bond 33 Gallery the other day with a bunch of her favorite editors.

The new tome, filled with practical beauty information, is supposed to go hand-in-hand with the academy she plans to open next year. Images from the book were blown-up extra large, hanging like art from the gallery’s walls.

Obsession: Erase Zit

Yikes.

The absolute worst thing is waking up in the morning before meeting with the big boss or looking in the mirror just before an interview to see a bulging red pimple saluting from your reflection.

Beauty Hot Spot: Waterside Apothecary

Oh, Marina del Rey.

To kill time before checking in at the airport, I ventured to the seaside city of Marina del Rey, where the rays hit hotly and the yachts shine like brilliant three-carat diamonds in the harbor.

Beauty At Hollywood Life’s Fifth Annual Style Awards

This Sunday, I covered the red carpet at Hollywood Life’s fifth annual Style Awards at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles.

Young Hollywood (Kristen Bell, Sophia Bush, Jamie Lynn Sigler, AnnaLynne McCord, Emmy Rossum), Old Hollywood (Mitzy Gaynor), music (Ludacris, Eve) and the fashion sets (Bob Mackie, Monique Lhuillier, Matthew Rolston, Tim Quinn) turned out in their best cocktail finest and, of course, with their best face forward.

Masked Beauty

The thing about living in an apartment with vertical blinds is that said vertical blinds don’t always do the best job of keeping light out when you really, really feel like sleeping in.

A girl I know literally saved my sleeping in schedule by giving me a stylish silk sleep mask (printed with a quote in cursive, too) from Gentle Fawn, and I can’t stop extolling the health, sanity and beauty benefits of such an unassuming gift.

Jack Black Attack

The metrosexual contingent was spawned by the acceptance of men (by other men) using moisturizers, colognes (and not that cheap Brut stuff from the drugstore), lip balms and cuticle cream.

Most boyfriends and husbands will lie through their teeth when asked whether they used the last dollop of your Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream on that dry patch underneath their right sideburn.
