If you stop to really think about the kinds of chemicals we subject our bodies to in the name of beauty, we’d probably think twice about some of the products we apply on a regular basis.
Nail polish accounts for a big sector in the cosmetics market — Chanel Vamp, anyone? — so that means the [...]

The annual November chill wreaks havoc on all things: your hair, boots, skin, clothes and attitude in general.
After all, no one likes nights that roll in at 4 pm — and no one likes torrential downpours that equate frizz and frazzle.
I suppose the two bright spots in November are Thanksgiving long weekends and the excuse to really start jotting down a wish list of things you wouldn’t mind finding under your tree for the holidays.
Here is a little wish list of top five beauty products that will keep you pretty right into the New Year and will make it a very happy holiday, indeed.

This afternoon, I got the chance to preview the newest goodies from organic product range Kiss My Face and chat with its two founders, Bob MacLeod and Steve Byckiewicz.
Kiss My Face, established in the early 1980s on a 200-acre organic farm in New York’s Hudson River Valley, was one of the first companies to dabble in organic cosmetics and skincare, bursting onto the scene with their famous olive bar soaps. MacLeod and Byckiewicz, both vegetarians, set out to make healthy products at the grassroots levels, using organic and natural ingredients (think shea butter, olive oil, beeswax, silica, tea tree and Iceland Moss) blended together in laboratory locations around the world.

The other day, someone put the fear in me when it comes to deodorants and antiperspirants by mentioning the potential cancer-causing chemicals harboring within them.
It’s something I had never stopped to think about, having been a stick and gel user for the past, oh, 14 or 15 years of my life.
Looking at the back of my current antipersirpant — Speedstick Gel 24/7 in Fresh Rush (I’ve never been one for the girly scents) — I realized any label that reads “If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away” should set off major red flags.

Living a raucous, fast city existence is kind of what happens to single city gals in their (ahem) twenties — after all, it’s the only time you’ll be able to work hard and play hard with slim to none inklings of regret.
This said “raucous” lifestyle usually consists of a full day’s work (mine being in front of my MacbBook for most of it), evening events (yesterday it was a store opening) and potentially post-shindig beverages. Then comes the weekend, fueled by dinner, girls’ nights out and Sunday eggs benny brunches followed by a lazy Sunday afternoon.
I almost don’t want to think of what kind of trauma us young professional ladies put our bodies through living the fun life, but maybe — just maybe — its effects can be counteracted with holistic body products touting aromatherapy and naturopathy goodness.
