The Cream Team

Cold weather equals dehydrated hands, both of which I’d rather be without.

Unfortunately, I can’t control the weather and I can’t fully control the moisture level of my epidermis, but what I can do is try to regulate the latter.

The top two brands in my cream team? That’s easy: L’Occitane and Kiehl’s.

L’ Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream feels rich and luscious — think of it as the cashmere of hand creams. Shea butter, honey, almond and coconut oils give it that silkiness and delicious smell, but also work symbiotically to combat cracked skin with subtle intensity, which is an oxymoron, I know, but somehow completely true. It also fits nicely into any bag, a major, major plus for any woman these days.

Kiehl’s Unusually Rich – But Not Greasy At All – Hand Cream with SPF 20 definitely wins the crown for best hand cream name, but it also does the job required. It’s rich alright, but not so you can still uncomfortably feel it saturating your hands after application. The scent is light to the nose and doesn’t threaten to overpower olfactory senses — no one likes to be assaulted with too much fragrance. The SPF factor makes this product a year-round must-have.

So dry hands, be gone.

My Holy Grail hand lotion was Kiss My Face Alpha & Aloe unscented body lotion because my hands absorbed it so quickly. Sadly, it’s now discontinued. Kiss My Face’s Olive & Aloe lotion, meanwhile, stays tacky too long for me. I’m very impatient — hehe. A friend gave me L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream and I really liked its performance, but she gave me a scented variety and I prefer unscented hand creams. Right now, I’m satisfied with Villainess (.net, not .com!) Whipped in Ennui (unscented) but I wish it came in more sanitary packaging than a tub. I’ll need to check out Kiehl’s Unusually Rich – But Not Greasy At All – Hand Cream with SPF 20, especially since I’m lookin for my Holy Grail hand cream with SPF. I keep meaning to try out Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Age Shield Hand Cream SPF 30 because I remember liking Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream years ago. Neutrogena has since debuted Norwegian Formula Fast Absorbing Hand Cream, which is also on my to-try list!

I’ve used L’ Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream and I thought it was nice, but not as great as most reviews said it was. I’m still searching for a fantastic hand cream for the cold weather months.
