Lisa Price started off her beauty product brand Carol’s Daughter while working on The Cosby Show set back in the 1980s, dabbling in mixing organic ingredients like sweet jojoba, almonds and soy in her downtime.
A few years later, it turned into a mail-order and online business in the 90s, eventually going the way of brick and mortar in 1999 with a store in Brooklyn. One store then turned into another in Harlem, then turned into a deal with Sephora to sell Carol’s Daughter.

Rachel Roy — the beautiful wife and baby mama of hip hop mogul Damon Dash — has consistently been making her mark in the industry after launching her namesake fashion line.
Everyone’s now scrambling to work with Mrs. Dash, including heavyweights in the beauty world, probably trying to score an insider’s discount to her to-die-for contrasting Sioux dress or Hana trench.

He’s the man behind the brand with that iconic white Rhino, a New Jersey boy who went on to found one of the most successful hip hop-infused streetwear brand Ecko Clothing.
Marc Ecko turned his clothing brand not only into various sub-brands — like G-Unit, Avirex and his Cut & Sew collection — but into a full-on production company called Marc Ecko Entertainment, Complex Magazine, videogame products, art, philanthropy and now a fragrance line with Parlux, the company behind Paris Hilton, Andy Roddick and Jessica Simpson celebrity scents.

A few weeks ago, I posted that cosmetics company Uslu Airlines — founded by makeup artist Feride Uslu — was getting ready to collaborate with worldwide DJs (think Ed Banger and Rolleryboys) on a club-influenced range of nail polish.
Now comes word of Uslu Airlines’ second-round nail color collabo with German-born designer Bernard Willhelm, who is an industry favorite, having worked under iconic designers like Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood.
The Uslu Airlines x Bernard Willhelm line, based on common airport destinations and hues from Willhelm’s current collection, dropped at OAK in New York recently.

Celebrity designers are a bit old hat these days, whether it be a celeb launching their own line (like Fetish by Eve) or a celeb teaming up with an already-established label (Rachel Bilson with DNKY).
A road a little less traveled is the celebrity makeup line — the only ones I can think of off the bat are Mary Kate and Ashley for Claire’s Accessories and Stuff by Hilary Duff for mass retailers (think Wal-Mart and JC Penney).
Leave it to model, supermom, television host, skivvies schiller and branding machine Heidi Klum to team up with long-time employer Victoria’s Secret for “The Heidi Klum Collection” for the brand’s Very Sexy Makeup line, the new collection which she debuted at the Grove in Los Angeles last week.

No one else defines edgy, low-key downtown style the way Erin Wasson does, simply by being Erin.
The bicoastal skater girl-turned-model-turned-stylist-turned-designer has gone from mugging for squeaky clean Maybelline cosmetics to styling designer it-boy Alexander Wang’s Fall ‘08 runway, designing her LowLuv jewelry line, starring with Justin Timberlake in his “I Am William Rast” ad campaign and co-designing a highly-anticipated collection with skate lifestyle brand RVCA.
Cutoff shorts, chunky flat boots, feather headdresses, oversized blazers, men’s tees, carefree hair, enviable accessories, smokey voice, beanies and black define Wasson’s personal style, something that has since been well-documented across the hippest of hip fashion sites (Style.com), blogs (Fashion Toast) and magazines (NYLON).

It’s nice to know that in an industry focused on facade and outer beauty, there is still an emphasis on creating inner beauty through charity.
October was Breast Cancer Awareness month, a time during which many of beauty’s biggest brands — from Lancome to Estee Lauder to YSL to Too Faced to Shiseido — launch special edition products to raise funds for breast cancer research and to go along with that signature pink ribbon.
Other beauty brands are socio-economically conscious, too, working with organizations and high-profile figures to better the greater good of man, health and the environment.

What do you get when you pair Matisse progeny with Hennessy progeny?
Fifty bottles hand painted by Sophie Matisse for Killan Hennessy perfumes, of course.
Killian Hennessy takes wafts of scent from his family’s famous cognac and mixes it with the wood barrel smell the liquor is stored in to create decadent fragrances for his olfactory line, By Killian.

Into storage went the cottons and linens and out of storage came the wool and cashmere.
Now that the air is beyond just a bit chilly, wearing cashmere sweaters is honestly one of the better ways to get through any grey, winter day.
That, and sipping on a pumpkin spice latte.
