Beauty News: Narcisco Rodriguez Does It Again

When I first started blogging for Makeup.com, I was obsessed with Narcisco Rodriguez For Her, the eau du parfum verison in that simple, modern, pretty pastel pink bottle.

Narciso Rodriguez had me at hello. Or at least first sniff.

Rodriguez is going to make Spring ‘09 a whole lot better me and a lot of scent-loving ladies with his new Essence Eaux De Parfum Collection, which not only has a fragrance but a deodorant spray, body lotion and shower gel, too.

Beauty News: Pantone Names Mimosa Color of the Year

Pantone color of the year When it comes to color, Pantone usually has the final say.

It appears the color of the year for 2009 is mimosa, as in not the alcoholic beverage preferred by ladies that brunch, but an orange-hued yellow bright enough to sear a cornea.

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, says, “The colour yellow exemplifies the warmth and nurturing quality of the sun, properties we as humans are naturally drawn to for reassurance. Mimosa also speaks to enlightenment, as it is a hue that sparks imagination and innovation.”

Dr. Oliver Zong: Taking The Pain Out Of Winter’s Foot Fashions

You can’t transition into fall fashion without a new pair of luxurious heeled boots, and you definitely can’t attend your office holiday party this season in a flirty Philip Lim dress and flats.

It’s always been all about the heels for women, a source of empowerment, sexiness and sass bound in straps, leather, zippers and open-toes, yet we’re also well aware of the pitfalls that result from constantly tottering on four inches.

New York-based, board-certified podiatrist Dr. Oliver Zong says, “One of the leading causes of foot problems, from painful conditions to visible deformities, are high heels and other uncomfortable footwear. Since most women are unwilling to sacrifice their stylish footwear, I often help them figure out how to make the necessary compromises for their lifestyle to minimize the amount of pain they suffer and prevent lasting injuries.”

Here is Dr. Zong, giving tips on avoiding pain when dealing with your Paciotti and Prada.

Buy It Now: Uslu Airlines x Bernard Willhelm

Uslu Airlines Bernard Willhelm nail polish collaboration A few weeks ago, I posted that cosmetics company Uslu Airlines — founded by makeup artist Feride Uslu — was getting ready to collaborate with worldwide DJs (think Ed Banger and Rolleryboys) on a club-influenced range of nail polish.

Now comes word of Uslu Airlines’ second-round nail color collabo with German-born designer Bernard Willhelm, who is an industry favorite, having worked under iconic designers like Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood.

The Uslu Airlines x Bernard Willhelm line, based on common airport destinations and hues from Willhelm’s current collection, dropped at OAK in New York recently.

Klum As You Are

Heidi Klum makeup collection with Victoria's Secret Celebrity designers are a bit old hat these days, whether it be a celeb launching their own line (like Fetish by Eve) or a celeb teaming up with an already-established label (Rachel Bilson with DNKY).

A road a little less traveled is the celebrity makeup line — the only ones I can think of off the bat are Mary Kate and Ashley for Claire’s Accessories and Stuff by Hilary Duff for mass retailers (think Wal-Mart and JC Penney).

Leave it to model, supermom, television host, skivvies schiller and branding machine Heidi Klum to team up with long-time employer Victoria’s Secret for “The Heidi Klum Collection” for the brand’s Very Sexy Makeup line, the new collection which she debuted at the Grove in Los Angeles last week.

Get Her Look: Erin Wasson

Erin Wasson personal fashion style No one else defines edgy, low-key downtown style the way Erin Wasson does, simply by being Erin.

The bicoastal skater girl-turned-model-turned-stylist-turned-designer has gone from mugging for squeaky clean Maybelline cosmetics to styling designer it-boy Alexander Wang’s Fall ‘08 runway, designing her LowLuv jewelry line, starring with Justin Timberlake in his “I Am William Rast” ad campaign and co-designing a highly-anticipated collection with skate lifestyle brand RVCA.

Cutoff shorts, chunky flat boots, feather headdresses, oversized blazers, men’s tees, carefree hair, enviable accessories, smokey voice, beanies and black define Wasson’s personal style, something that has since been well-documented across the hippest of hip fashion sites (Style.com), blogs (Fashion Toast) and magazines (NYLON).
