HSN, America’s biggest home shopping network, signed former model Carol Alt to launch a new skincare line called RAW Essentials By Carol Alt.
The 48-year old model, perpetual entrepreneur and author (check out her books “Eating In The Raw” and “The Raw 50″) follows a strict raw food diet after fighting a bout with uterine cancer, and the range is based on that particular live food practice. RAW’s products are devoid of synthetic preservatives and are manufactured at low temperatures, so its natural ingredients (like tamanu oil, aloe vera and soy proteins) keep their quality and benefits.

Q: It doesn’t matter how often I wash my face, I can’t seem to sidestep deep, ugly blackheads. With the recession and subsequent budget-tightening on my end, going for expensive facials to get rid of them is no more. How can I annihilate my blackheads in the comfort of my own bathroom?

Living a raucous, fast city existence is kind of what happens to single city gals in their (ahem) twenties — after all, it’s the only time you’ll be able to work hard and play hard with slim to none inklings of regret.
This said “raucous” lifestyle usually consists of a full day’s work (mine being in front of my MacbBook for most of it), evening events (yesterday it was a store opening) and potentially post-shindig beverages. Then comes the weekend, fueled by dinner, girls’ nights out and Sunday eggs benny brunches followed by a lazy Sunday afternoon.
I almost don’t want to think of what kind of trauma us young professional ladies put our bodies through living the fun life, but maybe — just maybe — its effects can be counteracted with holistic body products touting aromatherapy and naturopathy goodness.

It’s nice to know that in an industry focused on facade and outer beauty, there is still an emphasis on creating inner beauty through charity.
October was Breast Cancer Awareness month, a time during which many of beauty’s biggest brands — from Lancome to Estee Lauder to YSL to Too Faced to Shiseido — launch special edition products to raise funds for breast cancer research and to go along with that signature pink ribbon.
Other beauty brands are socio-economically conscious, too, working with organizations and high-profile figures to better the greater good of man, health and the environment.

Most women spend time and money trying to get rid of slick spots on their face, especially in the dreaded t-zone.
Translucent powders, blotting papers and matte lotions make the short list of makeup bag must-haves for this slippery issue. But we’re beginning to learn that not all oils are bad — in fact, beauty editors are going postal over Tamanu oil (dubbed “Sacred Oil” by locals), a traditional ingredient from tamanu tree nuts in the South Pacific.

To cleanse or not to cleanse, that is the question.
One too many projects at work, one too many parties, one too many canapes, one too many glasses of Champagne and one too many stops at that mystery meat hot dog stand on the way home is way too many bad habits.
When your body stops functioning at its optimal level, your energy level is zilch and your brain neurons fire at a snail’s pace, it’s high time for a colon cleanse.
