Today is Friday, but it’s not just any old Friday.
This Friday is also known as “Black Friday”, which is also known as the first day of the Christmas shopping season.
Besides bagging new clothes (Kova & T leggings for sure), a couple pairs of shoes (Sam Edelman Lombardo booties in grey) and some accessories (another chunky cocktail ring, perhaps?), I wouldn’t mind picking up a few good things for my ever-burgeoning beauty stash.

Amanda Lepore, the one-time transsexual muse of former club kid label Heatherette, is striking out on her own without the help of Richie Rich or Traver Rains.
Just in time for happy Holiday ‘08, Lepore is launching a namesake fragrance called Amanda by Amanda Lepore with famed perfumer, Christophe Laudamiel. The scent is supposed to remind its wearer of the transsexual icon’s curves and signature red lips through strawberry, woods, yellow mandarin and — of course — Cristal champagne.

Jean Paul Gaultier brought back the cone bra in the 80s, thanks to his fashion collaboration with Madonna, and recently announced his intention to launch a children’s clothing line this coming January.

Rachel Roy — the beautiful wife and baby mama of hip hop mogul Damon Dash — has consistently been making her mark in the industry after launching her namesake fashion line.
Everyone’s now scrambling to work with Mrs. Dash, including heavyweights in the beauty world, probably trying to score an insider’s discount to her to-die-for contrasting Sioux dress or Hana trench.

Magazines and runways used to be the number one way to spot fashion and beauty trends, but in this 2.0 digital and media age, things have shifted.
Blogs (The Sartorialist, Facehunter, Fashion Toast), video clips via web (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) and television shows (The O.C., Gossip Girl, 90210) are at the forefront of trendspotting, with bloggers and small screen stars getting to sport product, labels, color palettes and accessories firsthand before they hit the regular consuming masses.

It’s nice to know that in an industry focused on facade and outer beauty, there is still an emphasis on creating inner beauty through charity.
October was Breast Cancer Awareness month, a time during which many of beauty’s biggest brands — from Lancome to Estee Lauder to YSL to Too Faced to Shiseido — launch special edition products to raise funds for breast cancer research and to go along with that signature pink ribbon.
Other beauty brands are socio-economically conscious, too, working with organizations and high-profile figures to better the greater good of man, health and the environment.

Say the word “tiger” and I’ll think of three things: Siegfried & Roy, Frosted Flakes and William Blakes’ famous poem, aptly named “The Tiger”.
Olivia Chantecaille of Chantecaille Cosmetics is getting on the striped beast’s bandwagon, releasing a limited-edition makeup collection based on the majestic creature — the Bengal bronzer is beautifully laser-etched with an image of a royal Bengal tiger.

Candles just got a little bit more masculine. And sexy.
Tom Ford launched a line of limited-edition wick burners to his acclaimed Private Blend Collection, a set of 12 unisex scents. Don’t expect girly smells like lavender and grass here — this set wafts of Oud Wood, Tobacco Vanille, Noir de Noir and Neroli Portofino. The candles burn each release one of Tom’s blends into any room you like with the strike of a match (or flick of a Bic).

Yes, I’m completely guilty of brand abandonment.
Faster than a cop takes down a box of Krispy Kreme, I shamefully ditched my trusty shu uemura eyelash curler for a newer model, the Tarte Picture Perfect Eyelash curler, with its curvy ergonomics luring me to use it pre-mascara application.

Lancome has a brand new man at the top: Aaron de Mey.
The New Zealand-born de May comes from a hefty celebrity (Pamela Anderson), magazine (Mario Sorrenti, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Patrick Demarchelier, Bruce Weber) and film (David Lynch, Sofia Coppola) background, an admirable portfolio to have before moving into his new Lancome Make-Up Artistic Director position at one of the world’s most established beauty brands.
