Matching shoes, clothes and handbags is a no-no when it comes to style. It’s just as huge a no-no to match eye shadow with lipstick and nail polish.
What isn’t forbidden, however, is to match makeup colors with the season, as in pairing up your nail color this Fall ‘09 with the autumnal palette outside. This means when tree leaves leaves morph into brown and flutter slowly to earth, brushing that same color onto nails is the perfect manicure homage to a season of scarves, warm coats, crisp air and pumpkin spiced lattes.

TGI and F.
Friday is the call of heels (Dior), nights on the town (scenester lounge) and, naturally, cocktails to go along with it (pomegranate).
It also means tucking away the massive slouchy hobo that carries most of your life’s belongings on a daily basis and whipping out a credit card-sized clutch because it “goes” with your outfit. This begs the question: Where can you get a night’s beauty essentials small enough to fit in such a space-limited bag?
Liptini Mini Bar to the serious rescue, my friends.

I confess, I confess.
I’m completely neurotic when it comes to my hair. If a strand is out of place or if a wave isn’t swirled properly, yours truly might very well have a conniption fit. It’s sad, yes, but also sadly true.

As they say, the more is always merrier.
In consumer-speak, “the more” means extra product, perks, functions or results. Cosmetics companies understand regular folk are short of time (24 hours = not enough), space (more money, less room for new shoebox apartments downtown) and patience (directly related to lack of time plus space). Thank the beauty gods, because more of them are focusing on two-in-one innovations that give to relief — and added functionality — to all three.

Sure, designer Narciso Rodriguez and Sarah Jessica Parker are close friends, but do friends riff on another friend’s fragrance?
Bronzer is a beauty product that applies (or is applied) year-round.
It works in the spring/summer season because it gives shimmer to a sun-kissed face, and it is necessary in the fall/winter season because it gives color to a deathly pale, vitamin D-deprived skin. And we, by nature and a wee bit of vanity, want to continually emulate a complexion of the sun-kissed variety.

It’s Japan vs. Japan in this battle of the eyelash curlers.
In corner one, we have the original metal warrior from shu uemura ($16), the go-to eyelash curling tool of champions beloved by top makeup artists and the general public. Engineered to produce that perfectly curved band of lashes, its silicone “mushroom” pad and patented hinge have that legendary Japanese precision.
In the other corner, is the Go Curl Eyelash Curler from Japonesque ($10.50), the newer kid on the block with something to prove.
Say it ain’t so.
Summer is thisclose to drawing to a close, signaling the beginning of the end of tans, lazy days near the ocean, popsicles and that perfectly wind-swept hair from afternoons on the beach.
The one good thing is that salt water from dipping into the ocean will no longer wreak havoc on your tresses, but in case the damage is already done, you might want to invest in a jar of Fango Hair & Scalp Mask from Italian brand Borghese.
