Some people believe there’s a time and a place for everything. But at MDC, we’re not ones to keep a strict schedule. Beauty is much more fun when you can bend a few rules and blur the lines a bit, whether that means a smoky eye in the daytime or glitter you can rock past New Year’s. And that’s exactly what we did with this makeup tutorial — took a bold, super-feminine look and softened it — with the help of beauty guru Elyse Reneau, of course. Here’s how to recreate the look:
Get the Look: Blurred Lines
1. To achieve matte skin, apply primer. Even out skin with foundation and concealer. Contour cheeks with sculpting powder. Brush the powder across cheekbones, upper forehead, jawline, and sides of nose. Apply blush to the apples of cheeks in a soft pink shade like Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Pink Frosting.
2. Sweep a light cream eye shadow across your lids as a base. Apply a medium-brown shadow; blend into the crease. We used Maybelline Expertwear Eye Shadow Quad in Chai Latte.
3. Sweep Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Eyeliner in Blackest Black across the lash line and out toward temples to create a cat eye. Smudge carefully with an angled brush. Sweep mascara across the top and bottom lashes.
4. Apply lip liner to the center of the lips, in the center of the pout for the lower lip and below the cupid’s bow for the top lip. Then, use a lip brush to blend the lip color out to the rest of the lip for an understated pink glow. For this we chose Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Anarchy.
