A Guide to Healthy Nails from Nail Care Experts
- Be sure to brush your top coat all the way to the end of the tip, then over the edge and underneath the tip to seal. This helps prevent nail polish from wearing away at the edges of your nails.
- Avoid shaking bottles of nail polish. It creates air bubbles which will ruin the finish of applied nail color. Instead, hold the bottle right side up and gently roll it between the palms of your hands.
- File your nails gently in one direction only. Sawing back and forth may weaken the nail and result in splitting. Don't file too much off the sides, this can also weaken your nails.
- Use a cuticle cream or oil to keep cuticles moisturized and at their best. Healthy cuticles are an essential part of well groomed nails.
- Always use a base coat to help nail polish adhere, as well as protect your nails from stains. If your nails are weak, use a nail strengthener. For brittle nails, use a hydrating treatment.
- Finish your manicure or pedicure with a top coat. A top coat will protect your manicure and extend the life of the polish. Apply every other day to keep nail polish shiny and fresh.
