New York Fashion Week: Christian Siriano
The Russian opera and St. Petersburg Mariinsky Theatre were the inspirations for Christian Siriano’s fall 2013 ready-to-wear collection, resulting in clothes in opulent black and gold colors and sumptuous brocade fabrics and an equally luxurious beauty look.
Makeup artist Polly Osmond built the face around a strong, dark eye. She started by rimming the waterlines of eyes with MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder, and then heavily shading the outer corners of lids with MAC Eye Shadow in Carbon. After drawing a fine line on the top lids with MAC Fluidline in Blackstrack, Osmond used the same gel eyeliner to create feathering just underneath the outer corners of eyes to resemble tiny eyelashes. She skipped mascara, but filled in brows with MAC Penultimate Brow Marker, brushing them through afterward. She then sculpted the face with a contouring powder and finished the look with a MAC mauvey-nude lipstick topped with gloss.
With “a Russian girl dressed for an evening at the opera” in mind, hairstylist Antoinette Beenders sculpted hair into a regal updo. She first drew a center part from the forehead to the nape of the neck. She then sprayed Aveda Pure Abundance Style Prep to texturize and thicken hair and blow-dried it straight. She next crafted an integrated fishtail on either side of the part and secured ends with an elastic band. She folded each braid in half and crisscrossed them together at the back of the head, tucking the ends underneath and securing them in place with bobby pins. Beenders finished the look with a misting of Aveda Air Control Hair Spray for lightweight hold.
