We just stumbled upon polyvore.com (apparently we're a bit late to the game—our intern Nadera, who's tapped into all things stylish, said it's already pretty popular with young girls) and it's just about the coolest procrastination tool we've ever discovered. The concept is simple: The site contains thousands of images of current fashion and beauty products, uploaded either by you or by other Polyvore users (the images are updated monthly to make sure everything you see on the site is what's in stores now). You can search for products by brand, category, or trend, then you simply click and drag your favorite items on to your page and arrange them into a collage (called a "set"), which you can then publish on the site and send around to your friends.
Besides the obvious appeal of channeling your inner Matisse, part of the fun in creating these mini works of art is that all you or your friends have to do to buy one of the items in your collage is click on the photo, and it takes you directly to a brand website for instant buying gratification. As if we didn't already love shopping enough, now we can make our own click-to-buy editorial pages. Genius!
Check out the above example, created by Polyvore user Sofa King Chill and featuring Lancôme Color Fever Lipstick, Lancôme Hypnose Custom Volume Mascara, and Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Lipstick in Red Muse. We love her vibrant take on Parisian chic!
Have you tried Polyvore yet? If so, tell us what you think of it.
