How to De-Bloat Your Face

We all have those magical days when we take a break from our healthy vitamin-rich diet and binge on our favorite things in life: cookies, pizza, ice cream, cheeseburgers and copious amounts of chocolate. Sounds pretty blissful, right? That being said, nothing brings us back to reality quite like that first glance in the mirror the morning after aforementioned Binge Day. Yikes! Unfortunately, the magic of all that indulgent goodness did not rub off on your face — well, it did, but not in a good way. Somehow, overnight, your normally slim, chiseled face transformed to resemble that of the Pillsbury Dough Boy … not a good look. Before you work yourself into a frenzy, take a look at these tips that will help you deflate that puffy mug!

de-bloat your face

Drink Water

Bloating is often a result of dehydrated skin. Not drinking enough water causes your body to store up as much of it as possible to make up for the deficit, resulting in that not-so-cute puffy effect. Try drinking the recommended amount of eight to 10 glasses of water a day to keep your face hydrated. Your body reacts to this steady flow of water by flushing out the excess water and leaving you with a leaner mug. Also, If you're eyes are looking especially puffy, the tried-and-true cold cucumber remedy is a great quick-fix. Throw a slice of the vitamin-rich vegetable on each eye for a few minutes and you'll see them perk up instantly!

Sip on Some Green Tea

Green tea is packed with antioxidants and a natural detoxifier for your skin and body. Brew yourself one hot cup in the morning and midday. This will help flush the toxins and puffiness out of your system. You can also use green tea as a topical remedy by steeping the bags in boiling water, allowing them to cool for a few minutes in the refrigerator (or freezer) and applying them to areas of puffiness such as the cheeks and eye area.

Give Your Face a Massage

Sometimes our complexion could use a helping hand or two to get the blood flow going and deflate puffiness. All you have to do is use gentle (emphasis on “gentle”) half-moon motions with your ring and middle fingers and massage your under-eye, cheek and chin areas. Do this for a minute or two and you’ll see (and feel) a difference — promise!

Try a Detoxifying Mask

Clean house on your face with the help of a clay-based mask. These little miracle workers (like Kiehl’s Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque) help draw toxins and yuckiness out of your skin. They also leave your skin feeling more taut and tightened, which is great when you’re dealing with a sugar hangover!

Contour!

Sometimes, when our face isn’t at its best, we need to fake it. Thankfully, we have game-changing makeup products that fill in the gaps for us. When your face is looking a little round and chipmunk-like, put on a little smoke-and-mirrors act, also known as contouring. This will help create the illusion of chiseled, slim features, even on your puffiest of mornings. Keep a contouring kit on hand (we love NYX Highlight & Contour Powder) and stick to this super easy tutorial!
