How to Wear Mauve the Right Way

Mauve might be the color you have to Google to remember, but once it becomes a part of your beauty routine, you’ll never forget it! Not only does it have the ability to make your thin lips resemble those of a certain reality TV star (you know who!), but it also flatters every skin tone and eye color! This pale purple shade is taking over spring trends— so, don’t be the last one to give it a try. But, before you do, just be sure you do it the right way!

On Lips with Neutral Lids

If you’re lookin’ for Kardashian like plump lips, mauve is your miracle worker! Slightly over-line your pout with a lip pencil like NYX Slim Lip Pencil in Mauve to prevent bleeding and seal in color. Using your favorite matte or glossy mauve lipstick (we love NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes and YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Luminous Mauve!) fill in lips for a pouty look!

Since your full lips are the main focus here, keep your lids neutral with light brown shadow, like the shades in the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche La Palette Nude.

On Lids with Nude Lips

You can go soft and shimmery or smoky and sultry with mauve shadow. For days when you want to think outside of the (shadow) box, use a touch of Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Bordello all over your lid to make any eye color pop! For a more bold and dramatic effect, try the Lancôme Color Design 5 Pan Eyeshadow Palette in Mauve Chérie to create the perfect smoky eye.

Finish off your look with a nude lippie like Giorgio Armani Rouge Ecstasy in Essenza to really let your bright eyes be the center of attention.

Mauve Flush

A Mauve-toned blush like Maybelline Face Studio Master Glaze in Make a Mauve is a fun way to play up cheeks, without taking the classic pink or peach route. Go light on the apples of your cheeks for a natural flush or work color up your cheekbone a bit for a mod and sculpted appearance. Keep the rest of your makeup light and sheer, so as not to go mauve overboard!

Follow with a sheer highlighter like Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer in #9 just above your blush for a dewy glow and seal your look with a mauve kiss using Urban Decay Sheer Revolution Lipstick in Sheer Liar.

Mauve Mani

A mauve manicure goes with anything and everything! You never have to worry about it clashing with your outfit, makeup, or hair color (yes, girls think about this!). And similar to nude, mauve elongates your fingers for perfectly dainty digits!
