L'Oréal Paris at the Globes: Tom Bachik's Nail Lesson

With the latest trends in nails, it's just as much fun looking forward to what celebrities will be wearing on their tips as it is anticipating what gowns will be on display on the red carpet. L’Oréal Paris nail expert Tom Bachik has the inside scoop on what will be hot at tonight's 70th Golden Globes and the tricks for perfecting the ultimate camera-ready manicure.
THE PREDICTIONS
Prediction #1: Classic Red
Reds never leave the spotlight. Try: L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail in Caught Red-Handed.
Prediction #2: Darkest Dark
Time and time again, red-carpet walkers turn to inky hues for their manicures. Try: L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail in Haute Couture Red.
Prediction #3: Full-Coverage Nudes
From the spring 2013 runways to the red carpet, one-coat, full-coverage nudes will once again make an appearance. Try: L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail in Walk on the Beach.
Prediction #4: Metallics
Nothing quite says beautiful like a metallic. Make sure to select a streak-free lacquer that can give you mirror-like radiance. Try: L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail in Because You’re Worth It.
Prediction #5: Mega-Brights
Hyper-saturated colors always make a big splash, but the pigment content has to be rich and full to carry the look through. Try: L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail in Violet Vixen.
THE STEPS
Step 1: The only way to ensure red carpet-worthy nails is with a great nail foundation, according to Bachik. “Start by pushing back the cuticle,” he says. Then use a soft buffer to smooth your nail bed so that lacquer can adhere ridge-free to the nail.
Step 2: File your nails to create your desired shape. “Hold your hand up to yourself so that it is facing you,” Bachik says. This allows you to see if the shape you’re creating is perfect from finger to finger and from side to side.
Step 3: Apply a base coat. It will allow the color to apply beautifully to the nail, as well as support longer wear and deter any staining of the natural nail when using darker polish hues.
Step 4: Apply color using a push-and-pull technique: Push the color toward your cuticle and then pull the brush back and to the outer edges for a perfect line.
Step 5: Finish the look with a layer of your favorite top coat.
