The runways have undoubtedly spotlighted bright lips in recent seasons. But none have been quite as eye-catching as the fluorescent matte orange-pink version models featured at the Missoni spring 2013 ready-to-wear show. Makeup artist Nick Barose shared his steps on how to make your pout pop with neon color.
Step 1: Since matte lipstick tends to highlight any flakiness or dryness, prep your lips with an exfoliator for a perfectly smooth and soft surface. Try: The Lip Scrub by Sara Happ Brown Sugar.
Step 2: For the most opaque color, apply a rich, matte liquid lipstick directly from the tube. Try: Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro in Flesh mixed with Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro in Ecstasy to get this electric salmon hue. For a less intense look, Barose suggests tapping lipstick onto your mouth with a finger for that just-drank-Kool-Aid look. Try: MAC Lipstick in Impassioned.
Step 3: Avoid lip liner, which can look too severe. Instead use Q-tips to clean up any wayward edges around your mouth.
Step 4: To add contrast to your matte mouth, Barose recommends using a sheer, luminous foundation for your complexion. Try: Jouer Luminizing Tinted Moisturizer.
Step 5: Dress the apples of your cheeks with a dab of shimmery highlighter, such as Make Up For Ever Uplight Face Luminizer Gel in Pearly White.
Step 6: To add a touch of definition, line eyes with a softer brown eye pencil and then smudge the application into your top lash lines. Try: Lancôme Le Crayon Khôl in Black Coffee.
Step 7: Complete the look with a hint of lengthening mascara, like Maybelline Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length Mascara.
