Take a look at last week’s red carpet, and you might wonder if a warm breeze were in the air. Celebrities wore hair and makeup that had the lightest touch and dresses in a bouquet of brighter hues for a mood that was more evocative of a springtime day than a holiday winter’s night. Naomi Watts perfectly encapsulated the trend in retro waves, subtle lashes, a lip gently kissed in pink shimmer and a lavender floral Zac Posen design. Elle Fanning, Freida Pinto, Cate Blanchett and Jessica Chastain equally blossomed at events in simply coiffed strands, subtly flushed cheeks, sweetly colored smiles and gowns in shades like petal and cornflower blue. The effect was still glamourous, albeit in a demure way that was as surprising during this season as seeing a first bloom peeking out of fallen autumn leaves.
