How To: Summer Ready Soles

pedicure nail polish colorsSunshine, crashing waves, a cool drink, and a bright pedicure make for our definition of summer bliss. To help you ready your soles for the season, we put together a few easy steps to follow—because nothing says buzz-kill like calloused, forgotten feet.
Before hitting the beach, give yourself an at-home pedicure to slough off rough winter patches. Start by soaking your feet in warm water for about 15 minutes, to soften the skin.
MDC Tip: To make the experience even more luxurious, add a pinch of aromatherapy bath salts to the water.
Now it’s time to ditch that dry layer. If your feet are already in decent shape (no intense callouses), then try an exfoliating body scrub like Bliss Super Slough Scrub or Caudalie Divine Scrub. If you need some extra help, dry your feet and exfoliate rough spots (think heels and the balls of your feet) with a pumice stone or foot file. It may take more than one session to get perfectly smooth results.
Once the dead skin is removed, soften your soles with an intensely hydrating lotion. The Body Shop Peppermint Cooling Foot Rescue Treatment and Kiehl’s Crème de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter always get the job done.
MDC Tip: To keep your feet soft throughout the summer, apply lotion before bed, and wear socks to trap in the moisture.
Our favorite step of all: polish. Before applying your summer lacquer, rub a drop of cuticle oil into each toenail bed and push back any thickened skin with an orangewood stick. Let the oil sink in for a bit, then prep for polish by using a gentle polish remover to get rid of any oil or lotion left on the surface. Finally, reach for your favorite color and apply three strips of polish—one in the center, and one on either side. Wait a few minutes and let polish dry between coats.
Because one can never have too many polishes, we found our top picks for summer toes: Yves Saint Laurent La Laque Couture in N 5 Corail Divin; Essie DJ Play That Song; Butter London Fiver Nail Lacquer; Lancôme Vernis in Love in Jolie Rosalie; L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail in I Will!; Illamasqua Nail Varnish in Milf
