Born and raised in Brookline, Massachusetts, Philip B. began his professional hair styling career at age 14 in a Copley Square hair salon in Boston. Captivated by the magic of creating and accentuating beauty through shaping, styling and coloring of hair, Philip saw each head of hair as a blank canvas on which he would develop his art, maximizing the natural beauty of each client.

Philip moved to Los Angeles in 1984 to pursue his vision. Having settled in this inspirational mecca, he quickly built a solid clientele primarily in the entertainment industry, who were faithful to his hair talent and scalp treatments. Philip soon noticed how the demands of this glamorous industry, and city life styles stressed the hair with chemicals, heat, and environmental exposure; so better care became his number one priority.

Based on past observations and experiences, his passions for hair and scalp care, he created home remedies for his clients with dry scalp and hair. He constructed his formulas in his kitchen and salon. He shopped for the finest and freshest ingredients at the local Farmer's Market and herb shoppes. He created potions and treatments that eased a flaking scalp and restored the most damaged hair. He couldn't keep up with the overwhelming demand for his remedies, so a client finally proposed, "If you can bottle your treatments, I will give you the seed money to get started." The Philip B. product line was born.

Over time, Philip developed his Four-Step Treatment, which he calls "a Rejuvenating Hair and Scalp Facial". Rejuvenating Oil, Peppermint and Avocado Shampoo, Deep Conditioning Crème Rinse and Detangling Finishing Rinse Spray with Apple Cider Vinegar were the first four products in the Philip B line; the juicy plant-based treatment products were truly innovative, revealing to the world a new level of quality, composition, and performance.

A new idea is born. A hair and scalp facial normalizes scalp circulation, clarifies buildup of excess cells, sebum and product; leaving you feeling refreshed and revived. The Hair and Scalp Facial, utilizes essential oils blended with carrier oils, (a unique mixture that replicates the scalp's natural sebum or oils). The treatment produces stronger, healthier hair treated with rich natural moisturizing ingredients instead of harsh watered down chemicals.

As demand for his treatments increased, Philip began developing the Philip B. Hair Care product line in 1988, and in 1992 launched locally at Fred Segal, and then nationwide in 1993 with Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman. At this time he started Philip B. Inc. with the single-minded mission of making impeccable American made liquid goods containing potent botanicals in higher percentages and educating the client on everyday care and technique. He fulfilled his clear goal of quality without elaborate packaging, glossy ads or a large staff. Focusing on the most effective formulations, all his products contain natural ingredients that not only nourish but also enchant the senses with their intrinsic aroma. In addition, Philip loves creating educational books and tools to teach everyone about their hair and scalp. Philip has achieved and maintained his vision with a small committed family-like company.

The market was in such need of these products; soon the distribution expanded to Barney's New York, Space NK & Harvey Nichols in England, Scotland and Ireland, Joyce Beauty in Hong Kong, Ken's Apothecary in Malaysia, Nue Blue Eriu in Ireland, Make up Spy in Greece, Barneys New York and Tashiro Company in Japan, c/o of Stockholm in Sweden, Villa Moda in Dubai, and in Germany at Quartier 206, Berlin, and Körperkult Beautystore, Hamburg; with many more venues to come!

Philip added author to his credits in 1995. Philip B.'s Blended Beauty, is a delicious collection of personal care recipes for the hair, face and body, inspired by the philosophy of the Philip B. product line. The recipes guide the reader in enhancing the look and feel of their body, face and hair using wholesome food products frequently found in the kitchen. Recipes, such as "Quinoa-Kale Cleansing Scrub and Body Polish," leave the skin feeling fresh, glowing and smooth.

Philip B. continues to be personally involved and committed; he performs his magic at several select salons and shops internationally, constantly being touted by many magazines from American Vogue to British Vogue. FORBES MAGAZINE declared Philip B.'s scalp and hair treatment to be one of the Top 100 things that are worth every penny.

Philip B. has not only been embraced by the beauty world, but is now being noticed by the medical community for his wondrous results. In February 2001, Philip B. opened the first dermatological scalp and hair treatment center in the world, together with Dr. Ava Shamban, a Harvard graduate, and Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of California, Los Angeles. It is located in Santa Monica, California at the prestigious Laser Institute for Dermatology, Skin and Scalp Care. The treatments invigorate follicles and regulate cell production while providing the client with the cleanest and clearest scalp. Several treatments are available from easing hair loss, to dramatically addressing the issues of dandruff and psoriasis; and of course, great reconditioning oil treatments for dry to damaged hair. With this collaboration, Philip B. is introducing a new hair science, Trichotherapy, based on his scalp facial - combining science, cosmetology and a new awareness of the scalp and hair.

He has been touted in the best men's and women's magazines in Japan, France, Germany, Greece, England, Ireland, Canada, Malaysia and the United States.
