Frequently Asked Questions -
What is Omega 5? In the last few years, universities and scientific facilities have released a compendium of research on omega fatty acids. While Omega 3, 6 and 9 have increasingly moved to the forefront of discussion within the sphere of health and wellness, omega 5, an essential fatty acid derived from the seeds of the pomegranate, has received far less discussion. Also known as punicic acid, its official name is 9cis, 11trans, 13cis-conjugated linolenic acid ( CLNA ). In technical terms, Omega 5 is an 18-carbon fatty acid with three double bonds, whose first double bond is located between the fifth and sixth carbons. While chemically similar to conjugated linoleic acids ( CLA ) that have two double bonds, Omega 5 is extremely unique in that it has three double bonds. -
Why pomegranate seed oil? Pomegranate seed oil contains punicic acid, a naturally occurring Omega 5 fatty acid that is a powerful antioxidant, plant-based source of conjugated linolenic acid ( CLA ), and a high energy molecule that interferes with the production of inflammatory prostaglandins and leukotrienes that cause disease. Pomegranate seed oil provides the following health benefits: - Pomegranate seed oil is a very powerful antioxidant - six times more potent than grape seed extract.
- Pomegranate seed oil is a conjugated linolenic acid (a type of CLA ). CLA s typically come from animal products, but they are also found in certain plant products, of which the pomegranate is one. CLA
s are molecules that control and regulate glucose transport at the cell membrane level, making them particularly useful to individuals with insulin sensitivity.
- The Omega 5 in pomegranate seed oil blocks the conversion of diasoglyceral to arachadonic acid, mimicking, in a sense, the behavior of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug like aspirin, but without the side effects.
- Pomegranate seed oil has a very significant effect upon the electromagnetic field, increasing it by as much as 40 to 50 feet, which is about a tenfold extension of the field.

Research has substantiated pomegranate juice as an excellent antioxidant. However, it should be emphasized that the oil from the seeds is not only an antioxidant, but also possesses many other highly beneficial characteristics, such as being a conjugated linolenic acid that facilitates glucose transport and obstructs the conversion of diasoglyceral to arachadonic acid. Additional studies are currently underway throughout the United States - one at M.D. Anderson in Houston, Texas, which is one of the most prestigious cancer centers in the world - investigating the potential of pomegranate seed oil in cases of breast and prostate cancer. Has pomegranate seed oil been tested? Dr. John Mathias
has been assessing the effects of pomegranate seed oil in women with endometriosis for over two years. He has observed very positive results in over 100 women with moderate-to-severe endometriosis compared to women who are not consuming the oil. He has seen positive results in women who take the oil in capsule form, and also in women who apply the oil to their skin. Dr. Mathias is currently further assessing the benefits of external application of the oil in order to understand to what degree the punicic acid - the main ingredient in pomegranate seed oil - is absorbed.
