Who Should Wear Mineral Makeup?
Mineral Makeup was originally designed for plastic surgeons and dermatologists to use on patients that had various cosmetic procedures done and were left with redness on the face. Over the years we have realized that it's such a great product and had benefits for multiple skin conditions such as acne and Rosacea that it was no longer limited to cosmetic procedures. Tell us about your background and the philosophy behind Avanya?
When people ask me where I am from I tell them New Jersey, because that's where I grew up as a teenager. However, I was born in Guyana, South America, along with my nine other siblings! I attribute my constant yearning to help others to my humble background because I feel very fortunate for the opportunities I have been given. I have always been extremely motivated so after graduating medical school and finishing my residency in New York, I started my private practice. While building my practice I participated in medical volunteer trips but I always felt like I needed to do more!
Avanya evolved from my yearning to give back more and my search to resolve the acne problem I and many of my patients were experiencing. After deducing that my makeup was the problem, I set out to find a solution. My research led me to mineral makeup! While I knew that mineral makeup would solve my problem, I could not find a line of mineral makeup that was truly pure, natural looking, and easy to use. I then had a revelation - I would create a line of mineral makeup that could benefit women with the same issue I had! With the help of my brother who has been in the cosmetic industry for twenty years, we created Avanya, a new line of mineral cosmetics that solved all of the shortcomings of the current product lines.
Creating Avanya has been a labor of love but I do not plan to give up medicine. Avanya has enabled me to free myself from a full time medical practice so that I can dedicate my time and skill where it's needed most. In November of 2005, my husband and I spent 2 weeks in the Guyanese outback with the Remote Area Medical Team. We provided medical care to the native Indians in the rain forest who have no access to basic services like running water, indoor plumbing or medical care. This was a tremendous experience for us, rewarding and humbling at the same time, and we plan to do many more of these trips in the future. Throughout my life, I have had to work hard to achieve my goals but what I have learned is that anything is possible once the desire is there.
The vision for this company is to create a healthy line of cosmetics that provides flawless coverage and is easy to use for women with active lifestyles. I want our makeup to compliment a womans' natural beauty while at the same time protecting it.
What sets you apart from your competitors?
Avanya's cosmetics utilize a sophisticated blend of micronized minerals that are jet milled to produce fine particles between 2 to 8 microns. What does this mean to the consumers? Well most importantly it makes the foundation extremely light weight so it feels like you have nothing on your skin. It also creates a soft, smooth, silky texture that distributes evenly and lies on your skin flawlessly. It is the cosmetic that does not feel like makeup! It doesn't cake, crust or make your skin dull. It makes a womans' skin feel glowing, vibrant and sexy!
Our formula: One of the most common complaints about mineral make up is the white undertone and the shine. With our proprietary formula, we were able to eliminate the shine and white undertone creating a foundation that gives a naturally radiant look without appearing shiny. With this unique formulation we are able to provide full coverage for all ethnic skin tones. With most mineral make up on the market, the white undertone appears ashy on darker skin. We have a wide selection of foundations (18 Shades).
Our packaging: Another complaint about mineral cosmetics is that the powders are so messy. We designed our packaging to be as sleek as a compact, with a spill proof design, providing the best of both worlds.
Avanya's Mineral Cosmetics are made of all natural minerals that are free of preservatives, dyes, perfumes or talc and contain a natural sunscreen with SPF of 20. They are hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, UVA and UVB protection and highly sweat and water resistant.
