How to Wear a Red Smoky Eye During the Day

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, especially when it comes to the latest trend in smoky eye makeup—red eye shadow.

Here we show you how to achieve this smoldering look with a step-by-step tutorial and helpful tips for making it wearable during the day.

Red Smoky Eye Makeup

To create this daytime red smoky eye, our makeup artist used the Hot Singles Eye Shadow in Heat by NYX Professional Makeup, followed by a coat of black mascara.

Step 1: Eye Shadow

Apply a light, coppery red eye shadow shade to your lids, extending from your lash line to your crease.

Step 2: Lower Lashes

Apply the same red eye shadow shade from Step 1 to your lower lash line, using a small, tapered blending brush for precision.

Step 3: Highlighter

Use a highlighting product to illuminate the inner corners of each eye. We recommend the Touche Éclat Strobing Light by YSL Beauty.

4/5

Step 4: Liquid Liner

Define the eye with a micro-thin line of brown liquid liner along the upper lash line.

Step 5: Mascara

Apply a thin coat of mascara to both your top lashes only.
