How to Create the Red-Hot Smoky Eye

We recently opined on the reasons why you shouldn’t be afraid of red eye makeup. But in case you still need convincing, here’s a tutorial with step-by-step instructions on how to create a look so smoldering, we’re calling it the red-hot smoky eye.

Red Smoky Eye

To create this red smoky eye, our makeup artist used the Hot Singles Eye Shadow in Heat by NYX Professional Makeup, Le Crayon Kôhl in Bordeaux Corse by Lancôme, followed by a few coats of black mascara.

Step 1: Apply Eye Shadow

Apply a dark reddish eye shadow shade to the upper lid from lashes to crease. Then apply the same dark eye shadow to the lower lash line, using an angled brush.

Step 2: Diffuse Eye Shadow

Use a smudge brush to diffuse the shadow into both the upper and lower lids.

Step 3: Line Eyes

Define the entire eye with a creamy matte eye pencil, lining the upper and lower lash line so no skin is showing. Use a metallic aubergine pencil on the lower lash line.

Step 4: Apply Highlighter

Apply highlighter pencil to brow bone and the inner corners of the eyes.

Step 5: Apply Mascara

Apply a few coats of volumizing mascara.
