She Nailed It: Color Block Manicure

If you shy away from color when it comes to your clothes, wearing it on your nails is a great way to jazz up your wardrobe without getting too colorful. This graphic color blocked manicure seen on college student Samantha is not only sugary sweet, but it's also easy to do—even if, like Samantha, you're not a nail art aficionado.
Here's how to do it.
  • Step 1: Apply your go-to base coat.
  • Step 2: Using a purple polish (try Essie nail polish in playdate) and an orange nail polish (try OPI Nail Lacquer in On Collins Ave), alternate doing one coat of the colors until you've painted each nail.
  • Step 3: Let your base colors completely dry. Then, using two pieces of scotch tape ("I suggest a colored or opaque tape because clear was hard to see," says Samantha), place them each at an angle on one nail so that only a V shape of the base polish exposed. Tape each of your other nails the same way. Tip: Paint your base the night before if you're crunched for time or too impatient to watch nail lacquer dry.
  • Step 4: On your purple nails, paint orange polish on the exposed V. You'll paint your orange nails with a purple V.
  • Step 5: Allow your nails to dry for about five minutes then "peel off the tape in a downward motion—very slowly," says Samantha.
  • Step 6: Finish with your favorite top coat. Cute!
