Today we're kicking off a new column that'll catalog the hottest nail trends and creative lacquer ideas that you (the non-celebrity, non-model-types) are wowing us with. Each week we'll show you a look and how to get it—no cosmetology license required.
Up first: A creative use of two Shellac hues (the 14-day pro polish) and some craft glitter seen on CND nail stylist Roxanne Valinoti while backstage at the Victoria Beckham show at New York Fashion Week. Though she's lucky enough to be able to Shellac her own nails, you can get her look by instructing a manicurist on how to recreate the tips, too. Here's what she did.
First, she applied a coat of Shellac UV Color Coat in Cocoa from the base of her nails to the tips. Then, she applied a coat of Shellac UV Color Coat in Black Pool over the Cocoa, but she skipped the moon area of her nails. She basically left a half-circle shape near her cuticle free of the black Shellac.
Before applying the final top coat, she gently brushed a layer of silver craft glitter on top of the nude and black hues. Valinoti generally prefers using craft glitter over glitter nail polish because she says it's much easier to remove since it's more finely milled. Try Martha Stewart Crafts Fine Glitter.
She finished her dazzling look with the Shellac top coat. What we love about this manicure is not only the fact that it'll last 14 days, but that Valinoti wasn't afraid to have fun with the collection of otherwise solid, non glittery shades.
