When it comes to beauty for the everyday girl, Team MDC has you covered in spades. But even the most bona fide beauty experts can use a little inspiration straight from the runway. Our friends at Beautystreams specialize in breaking down the latest trends in high fashion so that you can make the look work for you, catwalk optional.
Home of the silver screen, a galaxy of superstars and that famous year-round sunshine, Southern California always feels like springtime! No wonder the glamour girls of L.A. look so great year-round — everything glows in the sunny light, from flowing high-volume hair to tangerine-dream lips. Elegance and nonchalance go hand in hand here — anything goes so long as everyone's having fun.
For directions to the good life, look no further than the Spring 2014 Dsquared2 runway, where tall, tan, young and lovely ladies parade poolside in micro-mini dresses that could double as swimsuits. The fashion reference is 1950s bombshell (love those cat-eye glasses and Gidget-worthy short shorts!) but the beauty inspiration is very today. For starters, the models’ foundation has a translucent, flawless finish, letting the skin's natural luminosity shine through and creating the perfect backdrop for apricot blush swept across cheekbones for a sun-kissed look.
To amp up the sex appeal, a smoky taupe eye shadow, a stroke of liner with a winged tip, and lush, dark lashes create a look that’s dramatic, but not too “done.” Strong, arched brows play a supporting role opposite the sultry eyes, while top billing goes to lips as bright as California poppies with creamy orange lipstick.
For true SoCal style to complete this look, wear your hair long and full, with windswept waves framing the face. No ponytails or updos here — they’re much too severe. Big and breezy is better for seeing and being seen. You may be coming from the beach, but you're ready to be discovered as you head out on the town. Pool party? Film premiere? Awards ceremony? Backyard barbecue? This look is glamorous and carefree at the same time, wherever you might go.
