Spring Beauty: 3 Creative Ways to Add Color to Your Makeup Routine!

how to wear colorful makeup

A pop of color is one of my favorite trends for the spring and summer seasons. Adding new hues to your wardrobe can elevate your style instantly, and the same goes for your makeup routine. As a professional makeup artist, a lot of clients ask me how to incorporate bold color into their look while maintaining a polished face. Here are a few professional tips.

The most important thing to remember is to stay focused. Pick a specific area you want to enhance and go for it! Whether it's the lids, the lashes, or the lips there are plenty of products and shades to play with. Enhancing one area on the face with bolder tones, instead of everything at once, is the key to looking on-trend instead of over-done.
The Lips
Go bold or go home, ladies! Bring out the orange, red, pink and fuchsia. Maintain a clean eye look while sporting this look.

My Picks: L'Oreal Infallible Rouge in Coral Seduction; Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro in #300, or Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tint in Lively- Hot Pink

The Lids
Experiment with cream based shadows, since they are ideal for starting off small with pigment and building as you go. Layer and blend until you get the desired hue. If you want to gradually ease into wearing more color on the lid, opt for a gel liner instead and keep it close to the lash line. Whether you're walking the runway, or headed to work, a subtle, yet colorful shimmer on the lids is bound to make heads turn.

My Picks: Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in Tenacious Teal; Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes Liner in Deep Purple, or Lancôme Liner Design Long Wear Calligraphy Gel Eyeliner in Emerald Seductive

The Lashes
Bat those lashes and don't look back. Curl your lashes, prime with a conditioning primer, and apply 2-3 coats of a colored mascara of your choice. If you are more comfortable with wearing black mascara, apply color only on the tips of the lashes. This creates a subtle yet eye-opening effect. Don't forget a wink and a smile!

My Picks: Make Up Forever Smoky Lash Mascara in Green; L'Oreal Double Extend Lash Boosting Mascara, or Yves Saint Laurent Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara in "Fascinating Violet"
