How to Wear Green Makeup on St. Patrick's Day (Without Looking Like a Leprechaun)

The greenest day of the year is almost upon us! Yes, we’re talking St. Patrick’s Day. The day when we believe in the magic of leprechauns, go on the hunt for pots of gold and deck ourselves out in green EVERYTHING. As children, looking like a little green creature was totally adorable, but these days, not so much. You can’t exactly get away with shamrock face paint at the office, so we decided to find a few looks where green can be acceptable. Check out our fave ways to go green for St. Patrick’s Day without going overboard (because you know we’ve all been there!).

Green Makeup

Green Mascara

If you want to join in on the festivities, but still want to err on the side of subtlety, green mascara is the best way to go. The beauty of this product is that you can build the color to achieve any desired level of intensity. If you just want a hint of green, swipe on one or two coats of mascara (prepped first with a lash primer). For a more intense lash look, follow one of these tutorials and be sure to layer your green mascara on liberally.

Green Nails

Sometimes you just need to let your hands do the talking. Giving yourself a bright green mani is a great and easy way to avoid the dreaded pinch on St. Paddy’s Day, especially if you’re not too keen on green makeup.

Product Recommendation: Essie Nail Color in Off Tropic

Green Eyeliner

Don’t limit yourself to Kelly green makeup on this fun day! Show off your wild side with lime green liner that’s both holiday-appropriate and on-trend.

Product Recommendation: NYX Vivid Brights Liner in Vivid Envy

Green Eye Shadow

For all you brave and color-crazed ladies out there, a vivid emerald green shadow is the perfect way to get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit. For a look that’s both easy and packed with pigment, pick up a green cream-based shadow and apply to your lids using the pads of your fingers. Grab a fluffy blending brush (or continue using your fingers) to blend out the color just past your crease. Add some highlighter to the brow bone and you’re good to go!

Product Recommendation: Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow in Edgy Emerald

Green Smoky Eye

For more sophisticated and subtle green eye makeup, try a sultry green smoky eye that highlights earthy tones versus neon shades. This way you still get your green makeup look, without looking too intense.

Product Recommendation: L'Oréal Paris Studio Secrets Professional Color Smokes Eye Shadow in Forest Smokes
