The red lip is a classic choice. But it never hurts to give the classics an upgrade every once and awhile. We’re setting down our signature Giorgio Armani red lipstick (for now) to take one of these twists on the red lip out for a spin.
Now is the time to try the gilded lip trend. Gold looks great with warmer reds, so choose an orange-based color like MAC Lipstick in Lady Danger or Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Bang. Use your finger to pat gold fine, loose pigment onto the center of the lips and blend outward. Professional makeup artist Tara Shakespeare used MAC Pigment in Melon for this look.
Dark Matte Lips
Rather than sticking with a traditional bright red, make a statement with something deeper. Shakespeare recommends applying dark shades like this Lancôme Color Design Lipcolor in Wine Party with a lip brush for better precision. Apply two coats, and then dust on translucent powder like Dermablend Loose Setting Powder to create the ultra matte effect.
Feeling extra festive? Grab the glitter. Start with the red lipstick of your choosing, then apply clear gloss like L’Oréal Colour Riche Le Gloss in Naturally Nude all over the lips. For the densest concentration of glitter, pour the loose glitter onto a tissue and dip lips in. For less sparkle, Shakespeare says to dab it on with your finger. Either way, finish by blotting the lips with a clean tissue.
Which of these red lip looks would you wear? Let us know in the comments.
